How Do I Deal with My Fear of What's Happening In the World Today?
Oct 23, 2024
It doesn't really matter who we're are talking about, it would be hard pressed to find anyone who isn't a little concerned about what's happening out in the world today. Even the vaccinated for example. The vaccinated are becoming painfully aware that there was plenty of fraud and deception behind the perpetual propaganda...that eventually pushed these people to line up for their injections. inflation is on the rise, things aren't making too much sense regardless of where you look, governments have turned on their own people and it doesn't appear that any top-down solution is coming from the actors or misleaders in power. I'll tell you below how I cope with this fear and instability. Hopefully you can gain something beneficial from a few of my personal coping strategies.
As I've written about before, I grew up in a fear and terror-based environment as a child. Stability was somewhat absent and even though the basic necessities of life were taken care of, my physical day-to-day security was never an absolute guarantee. Each day was about keeping my head down and avoiding the common physical assaults that I could potentially encounter in my childhood environment.
What that means is that I'm sort of used to walking out the front door and into the world, being afraid of what's going to happen next. This was never good for the hormonal profile to say the least. Stress hormones can destroy various tissues in the body (including the brain) and the body knows this all too well.
This is exactly why the body can retract "our feelings" and "our ability to care" about anything in general.......so at least the stress hormones diminish, and our tissues encounter less damage over the long haul. Stress hormones are like acid and they can eat through our tissues. Although stress reactions are designed to keep us safe, those stress reactions are designed to be on for much shorter durations than what most of us are encountering today. We're all in a permanent fight or flight reaction, to one degree or another. But don't worry, there are ways to calm our nervous systems down and take better care of ourselves.
That's one of the detriments to being scared chronically, your feelings shut off as a primitive protection mechanism, in order that you can survive longer in that chronically stressed environment. This means you become numb to joy and pleasure as well, not only numb to the pain. You lose your ability to FEEL period. I was like that more in the past but I'm still like this to some degree even today.
At that point (when you can't FEEL anymore) it gets hard to connect with other humans because the nervous system won't allow the potential of "feeling" the outside world, just incase some pain travels down the nervous system highway....along with some of that joy, love and happiness. Chronic fear can act like taking 4 Tylenols every day....you end up not feeling anything.
To be honest, if you study psychopathy, plenty of that cold behavioral profile has to do with our nervous system shutting itself down due to chronic stress, abuse etc etc. Therefore, it's pretty safe to say that being chronically stressed, worried or fearful is something we all need to work on. As usual, it's about progress, not perfection. Just start where you are, do what you can and use what you have. Let me tell you a few of my coping strategies.
First of all, I try to be as healthy as possible. I do live by the 90/10 rule. 90% of the time I live very healthy and 10% of the time, I live a "healthier" lifestyle. When I'm on vacation I live the "healthier" lifestyle and when I'm not on vacation, I'm very healthy. Although I like the way I look and feel much better when I'm very healthy, I follow this health regime to keep my stress hormones down. See, unhealthy food can increase stress hormone production as well. If I would expose myself to unhealthy food too much, I could die an accelerated death, due to the already stressful imprinting that I carry with me from my childhood. Stressed people need to keep health as their #1 priority, or their body breaks down very fast otherwise. This is only one of the reasons why I take what I eat and what I drink so seriously. I have to or my body fails me very quickly.
Stress also helps release sugar from the liver. Sugar is an acid and that means it can cause tissue damage all over the body. This is why I work out early in the AM on an empty stomach (heavy weight training) in order to try and deplete my liver of sugar, in order that I can avoid the big sugar spikes I would get during the day....if my stress happened to get the better of me. Sugar is a problem, so I try to deplete it from my liver early in the day via intense resistance training. Exercising on an empty stomach helps me keep my stress-based sugar release (from my liver) at a bare minimum. For me, this works really well to keep me calm, strong and healthy.
I also eat a low glycemic diet (which means it doesn't spike my blood sugar) and I get to bed on time with my partner. I use blue blocking glasses when looking at a computer screen before sunrise and after sunset. This helps reduce stress hormones. I also try to increase my 5 pillars of strength as well. This 5-pillar strategy is extremely effective for staying calm in a crazy world. Feeling afraid or in fear has lots to do with varying degrees of weakness. That can include mental weakness variables like low self-confidence, low self-esteem, low self-worth or sometimes even just having negative disempowering attitude regarding one's ability to successfully navigate life's challenges.
If someone feels weak, fear can creep into their psyche and nervous system more forcefully.....simply because they don't feel like they can defend themselves effectively from an attack, threat or assault. Full spectrum strength is about developing physical strength as the foundational pillar upon which all the other pillars rest. Once the physical pillar of strength is solid and fortified, then we move onto building our intellectual pillar.......which is the pursuit of lost practical knowledge. After the intellectual pillar is strengthened then we can move onto the financial pillar, the emotional pillar and the spiritual pillar. In regards to combating fear, overall full spectrum strength can play a major role with calming the nervous system down. It's important to know that you're strong enough and capable enough to weather the storm. Do you walk into the world as a lion or a mouse? How we think and move has everything to do with our strength profile.
I also use the science of psychological reprogramming on myself. I really watch what ideas I generate in my own mind. (more positive than negative is the goal) I'm also vigilant as to what media influences I permit unchecked into my eyes and ears. Maybe a program that teaches full spectrum strength is something that may benefit you right now?
