Why Your Dollar Will Buy Less Each Month in 2026.......and The Solution

By 268 AD, it was 2% silver.

Same coin.

Same name.

Completely different value.

Romans kept using it because the empire told them it was money.

Until one day, Roman soldiers stopped accepting coins.

They demanded goods instead.

Food. Land. Livestock.

That was the moment everyone realized the game was over.

I spent the last month studying monetary history, and once you see the pattern, you can’t unsee it.

Rome couldn’t print more silver.

So they mixed in copper.

They hoped nobody would notice.

Sound familiar?

We can’t print more productivity.

So we print more currency.

And hope inflation stays “transitory.”

Different technology.

Identical psychology.

It always starts the same way.

In 64 AD, Emperor Nero needed money to rebuild Rome after the Great Fire.

So he reduced the silver content of the denarius by about 14%.

Just this once.

Emergency spending.

Temporary measures.

That’s always how it begins.

Later, Septimius Severus cut the silver content to about 50% to fund military campaigns.

Then came more wars.

More promises.

More spending.

By the time of Emperor Gallienus, the coin was less than 5% silver.

Essentially worthless.

It took Rome about 300 years to turn sound money into garbage.

Now look at the dollar.

Since 1913, the U.S. dollar has lost about 98% of its purchasing power.

Same trajectory.

Much faster timeline.

We don’t call it debasement anymore.

 

We call it:

• Quantitative easing

• Accommodative monetary policy

• Liquidity support

 

Cleaner language.

Same dirty trick.

When Roman soldiers refused debased coins, parts of the monetary economy collapsed.

Barter replaced currency in many regions.

Trade slowed.

Trust disappeared.

We’re not there yet.

But when your “raise” buys less than last year’s salary, you’re watching the same movie — just in slow motion.

Governments always face the same trap.

They can’t raise taxes too much — political suicide.

They can’t cut spending — instant backlash.

So they choose the option most people don’t understand.

They debase the currency.

Inflation is the hidden tax on anyone holding money.

Reserve currency status means other countries absorb part of that inflation.

Until one day… they don’t.

The Roman denarius went from a day’s wages to worthless copper scraps.

The dollar is on the same path.

Not because leaders are evil.

But because history always repeats when discipline disappears.

Same story.

Same math.

Just faster this time.
